Freedom from Guilt

crooked+pathProverbs 21:8 The guilty walk a crooked path; the innocent travel a straight road.

Guilt will burden you to the point that you will not be able to walk straight and purposefully. Under it s weight, you will stumble, wobble, weave, and strain to get anywhere. Guilt is a paralyzing force. You soon become ineffective in your pursuits and inefficient in your ability to live life in a meaningful way.

God created you with a definite purpose and intention. As a result, the enemy of your existence will try to betray you with your own conscience. Your own memory can be his greatest tool against you. He will say to you:

  • “God’s hands are tied, and He won’t bless you or help you because of your sins.”
  • “You sure have blown it this time…God is really mad at you now!”
  • “You are on your own. You are isolated and unworthy.”
  • “No one would want to be around you if they knew what you did.”
  • “You are going to be miserable forever.”
  • “You should be ashamed of yourself, there is no way out.”

Understand that this not the voice of God.

When you miss it, be quick to repent so the devil won’t have any room to torment you.

Thanks, to Jesus Christ, guilt is now obsolete.

Romans 8:1-2 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.” NKJV

Acts 13:39 “Everyone who believes in him is freed from all guilt and declared right with God – something the Jewish law could never do.” NLT

1 John 1:5-10 “This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.”

What do you do with guilt?

  1. Take our sins to God…only He can do anything about them. He is the only one who has prepared an effective method of dealing with sin. Sin inhibits our ability to hear God. God doesn’t want us to be restricted from Him in any way. Tell Him what you have done and he will forgive it and clean you up. You will be fresh and new. Free again.
  2. God does not intend for us to carry guilt around as punishment. He came to set us free. Let Him do what He came to do. We all want to accomplish what we whatever task we are taking on. So does Jesus.
  3. Be determined to look forward not back. Guilt will try to creep up on you if from behind. If you look back it may just jump right on you.

You have made mistakes in the past… Great ,now you know to do it differently.

  1. Don’t make room for guilt… Do the best you can in all that you do. Be the best you can be and work as hard as you can. Be as good to people as you would like them to be to you. Do things in excellence.
  2. Accept responsibility for your actions, your words, and your thoughts. Resist the temptation to absolve yourself of  your own choices. Never try to make your weakness someone else’s fault. Own it and deal with it. That make less room for guilt. Attack guilt and it cannot attack you. Defeat guilt before it defeats you.

Understand that God has gone through a lot so that we can be free from condemnation. It is His desire that we walk in freedom from guilt. When it comes we must be aggressive and put it in its place or we become ineffective members of the body of Christ. We have authority over sickness and sin and we must keep our peace of mind and spirit so that we can hear the voice of God in order to be obedient to His instruction.

Jesus has given us peace. His Peace.

John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

A guilty heart is a troubled heart. Don’t let it be troubled. Deal with it head on. You are forgiven. Accept that wonderful truth and live from an understanding that God has already made a way for you. Guilt is self-punishment for sin and Jesus paid the full price of our sin on the cross. There is no need for punishment so let it go and give it to God.

Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

“The peace of God will guard our hearts and minds.”  Dwell on that picture in your mind for a moment. God’s peace is our guard and a protector. Live free from a guilty conscience and empowered by God’s presence and His peace.
